Seasonal Maintenance Worker I Part-time
The City of Cosmopolis is hiring for the position of Seasonal Maintenance Worker I (Part-time). Salary Range=$23.71 - $28.81 (DOE)
Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to) Patching road surfaces with gravel or asphalt mix. Emptying dump trucks, spreading rock and gravel, tramps and rakes, uses roller on asphalt. Skills may include carpentry and painting for projects such as installing, repairing and
painting park benches, fence posts and other objects. May perform traffic control functions. Help with street, sewer, water & stormwater jobs such as leak repairs, sewer main cleanouts and street sweeping. Perform clean-up work both in the shop and at job sites. Perform routine park maintenance such as mowing, fence repair, garbage pickup, restroom cleaning and other city areas as directed. Accurately and timely read and record water meter readings. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk and hear, reach with hands & arms. Ability to perform heavy physical labor for extended periods at times in inclement weather. Occasionally required to use ladders. Use hands and fingers to manage, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Equipment Used: Equipment includes but is not limited to commonly used hand and power tools, carpentry tools and brush cutting equipment, propane-fired tar pot, motorized vehicles such as pickup trucks and dump trucks; chainsaws, shovels, rakes, machetes, axes, weed eater, push and riding lawn mowers, electric sanders and blasters, paint brush, rollers, and sprayer, 90 pd jackhammer, picks, breaker bar, sledge hammers, hand and power tampers, plate compactor, roller, gasoline and diesel pumps, compressors, generators, post hole diggers, ditch witches, pressure gauges.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to accurately keep manual and computerized records. Understand the safe operation of both light duty and heavy-duty vehicles. Effectively and professionally communicate both orally and written with co-workers, city staff, management and the public. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, city staff, management and the public, work independently or cooperatively in work groups.
Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements: Valid WA State Driver’s License required, CDL preferred. First Aid/CPR & Flagging Certification preferred.
Experience, education, or training which provides the level of knowledge, skill, and ability equivalent to High school graduation or GED; prefer experience in street, wastewater, or water maintenance functions.
This position is supervised under the direction of Public Works Lead and Mayor.
