Injured Wildlife

If you find an injured deer in Washington state, you can report it to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Enforcement office at (360) 902-2936 or by emailing WILDCOMM@dfw.wa.gov. In an emergency, call 911. You can also bring the injured deer to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or vet that accepts injured animals. You should call the rehabilitator ahead of time to confirm they will take the animal. You should not attempt to treat or raise a wild animal yourself, as you could make the animal's situation worse or kill it. Here are some other things to know about reporting injured wildlife:

  • You can use the WDFW's searchable map to find a wildlife rehabilitator.
  • The USFWS also has a searchable map of bird-specific rehabbers.
  • If you find a deer fawn, you should leave it alone unless you are certain the mother is dead or the fawn is clearly sick or injured.
  • If you find a wild animal on a freeway, you should contact the Washington State Department of Transportation at (509) 324-6585.

In the event of an immediate public safety issue, wildlife violation, or an injured or dangerous animal, please call the WDFW Enforcement office at 360-902-2936 or email WILDCOMM@dfw.wa.gov, or call 911.
