City of Cosmopolis Declaration of Emergency
WHEREAS, the safety of the residents of the City of Cosmopolis are a top priority; and
WHEREAS, on December 23, 2021 the Cosmopolis Volunteer Fire Association announced that all nine current volunteers of the Cosmopolis Volunteer Fire Department intended to resign on January 1, 2022; and
WHEREAS, efforts were made to find alternatives to such a scenario occurring over the prior years; and
WHEREAS, no resolution was able to be made prior to January 1, 2022; and
WHEREAS, the continued fire/EMS coverage for the City of Cosmopolis is imperative; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY ORDERED BY the Mayor of the City of Cosmopolis, Grays Harbor County, Washington, as follows:
- There is hereby declared an emergency, effective immediately, due to the lack of staffing within the Cosmopolis Volunteer Fire Department.
- Pursuant to the emergency declared, emergency powers set forth in RCW 38.52 allow for the order that a public health emergency exists.
- Actions must be taken to ensure the safety of residents
- The declaration of an emergency set forth shall terminate on February 1, 2022 at 12:01 am unless extended.
