Community Groups & Volunteer Opportunities

There are plenty of ways to connect with your neighbors and get involved in the community. Local clubs, volunteer programs, and resident-led groups help organize events, beautify our public spaces, support local students, promote public safety, and bring neighbors together. Whether you’re looking to volunteer, meet more people in Cosi, or simply stay connected with what’s happening around town, these are some of the groups serving our community.

Cosmopolis Lions Club

The Cosmopolis Lions Club has a long tradition of service in our community and is part of Lions Clubs International, whose motto is “We Serve.” Locally, Lions Club members are active throughout Cosmopolis, hosting and supporting community events and providing scholarships to local students. The club is part of a worldwide network of volunteers dedicated to strengthening their communities through service.

The Cosmopolis Lions Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Cosmopolis Lions Club Hall, 602 2nd Street.

Community Food Pantry

The Cosmopolis Community Food Pantry, operated by Councilmember Sue Darcy, provides food assistance to local residents in need. The pantry is open every other Tuesday from 2:00–4:00 PM. Residents are welcome to stop by during open hours to access available food and supplies.

Senior Lunch with K

Join your neighbors every Tuesday for Senior Lunch with K, a weekly community lunch for adults 50+. Stop by between 12:00–1:00 PM to relax, visit with neighbors, and enjoy a free lunch together. Each week features a soup of the week, other food, and of course, dessert!

Lunches often include fun activities, presentations, or visits from local organizations sharing resources and services for older adults. Past guests and activities have included the Anywhere Library and opportunities to learn about resources available in our community.

There’s no need for a special occasion. Come for lunch, stay for the conversation, and enjoy an afternoon with your Cosi neighbors.

Cosmopolis 98537 Community Group

Cosmopolis 98537 is a public, community-run Facebook group created to help bring the residents of Cosmopolis together.

Residents are encouraged to connect with their neighbors and share local news, events, opinions, recommendations, recipes, experiences, questions, and everything in between. It’s an informal place to keep up with what’s happening around Cosi and get to know the people who call it home.

Cosmopolis Community Cares

Cosmopolis Community Cares is a resident-led community safety and neighborhood involvement program, similar to a neighborhood watch.

The program organizes Cosmopolis into neighborhood zones with volunteer Zone Leaders who help residents communicate concerns, report suspicious activity through the appropriate channels, and stay informed about issues affecting their area.

Zone Leaders also work with the Public Safety Committee and Aberdeen Police Department to help share information back with their neighborhoods and encourage greater community involvement.

Friends of Highland Park

Friends of Highland Park is a volunteer-led group working to renovate, develop, and improve Highland Park and other parks throughout Cosmopolis, with the goal of creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for people of all ages.

Their work provides opportunities for residents to play a hands-on role in improving the parks and public spaces that make our city special.

Cosi Pedal Pushers

The Cosi Pedal Pushers, associated with Friends of Highland Park, are volunteers who donate their time and energy to beautifying Cosmopolis.

From helping care for plantings to supporting community beautification projects, the Pedal Pushers are one of the ways residents can get directly involved in making Cosi a more beautiful place to live.

There are many opportunities to volunteer or support their work through donations.

Citizen Patrol

Citizen Patrol volunteers support the Aberdeen Police Department through its volunteer-driven Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) program.

The program was established to give community volunteers an opportunity to assist APD with activities such as business checks, vacation residence checks, special events, clerical activities, and other administrative support.

Citizen Patrol provides another way for residents to contribute to public safety and support the police department serving our community.

Get Involved in Cosmopolis

Community involvement doesn’t have to mean making a huge time commitment. It can be volunteering at an event, helping beautify a park, getting to know your neighbors, supporting a local organization, or simply staying informed.
